New Windows XP hibernate trick (for me at least)

I discovered two things about Windows XP hibernate function by accident today.

  1. When Windows is resuming from hibernation, you can pause it by hitting the ‘Esc’ key. You can then resume hibernation by hitting ‘Esc’ again.
  2. Also when resuming from hibernation, you can hit the ‘F8’ key and choose to delete the restore data and boot Windows normally.

I’m sure they’ll come in handy eventually.

10-day hiatus

Wow, I haven’t posted anything in 10 days or so… What have I been up to?

  • Suzuki Swift
I drove my friend Tarek’s new Suzuki Swift. They weren’t joking about the “Swift” part. And it looks good too!

  •   I tried a new look for my website. It’s laid out using only CSS positioning, no tables!

  • PHP logo
I started taking a course in PHP. Hopefully it’ll help me make my site more dynamic. Now that’s a word that Web 2.0 people love.

  • Caramel official movie poster
I watched a Lebanese movie with no plot. It’s called Caramel. I guess I’d have to be a girl to appreciate it.

Things I need to do in the coming days:

  • Refine my website’s new look. I want to pull back the current design to make it look a little more professional, a little less kitschy. Right now, it doesn’t look like it has much to do with Industrial Design, so I have to address that.
  • Write my review of the Nokia 6120 Classic. I should really start that review. I finally figured out how to take screenshots!
  • Pack for 3rd year of college. I can’t wait to be back!

Coroflot’s creative seeds looks to be a valuable resource

Coroflot, a “career and community site for creative professionals,” just launched a blog called Creative Seeds. According to them, it is:

“A blog dedicated to creative work: How-to’s on finding design work and creative recruiting, advice on what leading designers are looking for, and showcases of great work from Coroflot portfolios.”

Should be a valuable resource to us design-types. I’ll be keeping an eye on it.

Take that fixed webcams!

I saw this nifty device on NOTCOT.ORG and was hit by one of those “now why didn’t I think of that?” feelings.

This is neat

Motorcycle from watch parts

Someone has been making motorcycles from watch parts. The one in the picture is my favourite but there are a bunch more. Found via MAKE: blog. Love that stuff.

Apple iMac similar to Audi in design?

Just when I was talking about Apple’s new designs, I found this article referenced on core77 about the design similarities between Apple and Audi. Interesting.

Apple’s new design trend?

New iMac angle

When I first saw the iPhone (not in the flesh, haven’t had the chance yet!) I noticed that it was somewhat of a departure from Apple’s regular design. Of course, the whole touchscreen thing called for a new design, but the use of materials and the black, was new, at least to my knowledge. So I started wondering what the next iPod will look like. I’m sure it’ll be quite different from what we’re used to.

Then Apple released the new iMac (I’m a bit late to this news, I was on vacation!). I could definitely see the family resemblance between the iMac and the iPhone. The aluminum casing with glossy black trim is one thing. Well, I guess it’s the main thing. But I’m thinking that the rest of Apple’s products are definitely going in this direction, which feels a little more “mature” than all that glossy white stuff. Also a little more mainstream. I don’t like the new keyboard though. Well, I don’t like the keys on the keyboard, and I miss the curve of the old ones.

The picture of an iMac next to a Dell was damn clever though.

Images look good now!

With some CSS magic that I learned from Max Design’s CSS Floatutorial page, I was able to greatly improve the presentation of my images. Scroll through some old posts and tell me if you like the new look.

Thanks Max Design!

Back in Beirut - home, sweet home

I’m glad to be back. I love my bed. :-)

The Tired Tourist

It’s getting so tiring staying up to write these posts. I’m falling asleep at ridiculous times in ridiculous places. I’m almost narcoleptic at this point. So I’m going to delay posting about this trip for when I get back to Lebanon. In the meantime, you could check out my website. Yeah, it’s got nothing in it yet, but isn’t it pretty?
